Ragi Halli Forest ,Thattekere Lake (Kanive Mahadeshwara Lake)

It was my first visit to Ragihalli forest and Thattekere Lake, both are really good. My self and Tilak came across these places when we were researching for our next cycling route.

We both decided for the Saturday ride and were eagerly waiting for the day. Finally the day ( 15th June) came and we left our place early morning 5.15 AM. Near Konanakunte cross another team member Dipanjan Choudhury joined us.

Total distance covered was 90 Km at an average speed of 15.5 kmph. Below is the route map

Route Map

First reached Bannerughatta and took Anekal road. After traveling around 3 kms, at right we can see Ragihalli, board is not clearly visible and we asked a villager for guidance. Some photographs @ turning with team mates.

After a few minutes ride, we entered the forest area. Some facts about this area. Spread across 7050 acres which has been notified in April 1884. Though born and brought up in Bengaluru, never thought that around namma Bengaluru we have such a nice place.
Some of the views of the forest road and the view point.

View point

After enjoying at the view point we l headed towards the Tattekere. The road and ride was good with some off road track. The best ever landmark help, is asking people in the village. Follow their directions.

No Traffic, no honking sound

Ragihalli has a lake and is very famous amongst bird watchers, even we found some colorful birds.

At the end of our off road track we found the Harohalli and Jigani road. We pedaled for almost an hour and reached point we thought would be the road which leads us to the Thattekere lake or Kanive Mahadeshwara Lake.No one was there to guide and us, finally we decided to go ahead with the road.
Wrong road

After almost reaching the nearest village, we were told that the road does not take us to the lake and guided us with some input to reach the spot. We were hungry and we had slices of bread Tilak brought at the entry point (gate, which was closed by KFD)to the lake.

This lake is one of the best lakes I have seen in and around Bengaluru. The lake is spread over the forest and looks majestic being situated in the middle of the small hills. Since we visited in June, the lake was not full. There is a temple called Kanive Mahadeswara temple near the lake. There are not many villages and people around. The Lake on one side has a line up of tall Nilgiri trees and the forest hills on the other side.We walked around the lake to get different views and the walk itself was refreshing.Spending idle time sitting along the lake, listening to the recurring sweet music of the small tides in the lake hitting the shores, the trees making sounds by breezy winds.

Being a nature admirer, one humble request is, please don't litter any of these places you visit. The nature will always remember and respect us for not leaving behind the traces of our visits to it's territory. So please don't pollute the place!
